2017 size was down from 2016 as per DFW Creel, so DFW increasing the size of fish and catch ability wasnt exactly the deal as per the data submitted as we always found the bigger fish and they didnt run with the smaller fish. Fewer trout to cull the population and now the school of juveniles are too large for the average trout to eat and about the same size of the trout planted. Some one has to do this job folks, it isnt pretty but it has to be done. If Oregon can do it, what the hell is wrong with CA DFW? They do release a gas when transpiring and in dense numbers its very obvious. Getting out of the chubs has been the hard part. A twenty four hour time lapsed loop is currently available, which can be customized to allow viewing of images going back 1 month from the present date. Public awareness is critical to this enforcement as the agencies only care about one thing.and that hasnt appeared to be the lake or fishery which is the livelihood of Lassen County. Trout stay in warmer water if there isnt an ample supply of dissolved oxygen where it is cooler, perish when released when surface temps and water temps where they reside are over 70F or released over deep water once they expel their air bladder. Water quality testing is in this basin is a priority, but it hasnt seen a fish up north for years. Either we support the cattle industry or the recreation, lake and fishery. From ash coming down Pine Creek, fire retardant and massive cow crap being covered with water.all may have an affect on the algae blooms this season, perhaps seasons to come. Eagle Lake Guardians and the State water board are going to be watching intensely, all three basins of the lake, but the water board needs a greater professional presence and stop taking LNF word for it that all is ok. LNF doesnt have a good track record when it comes to honesty and reliability in many issues. The Eagle Lake Recreation Area is managed by the Lassen College Foundation under a special use permit from the US Forest Service, Lassen National Forest. Fish havent been up there for years. We certainly cant believe what they say one minute and then the next. Admission to that fact has been received. I had a discussion with Trout Unlimited recently about the plan and other things that were not in the best interest of the lake and trout. We have had more grebes the last couple years, but the damage was done by the time we had the new tules start growing for nesting. We may see a true native spawn decades from now, but without a lake, whats the point? Where the lake has gone from that point.is down. Perhaps, this is where the barrier to restoring anything has been. They school in three distinct groups and generally well below the depth that the trout need where there is more dissolved oxygen (often scoping below 40ft). It does have something to do with it but 86 impounds and water diversions on our main spawning and feeder creek has had devastating affects all for just one or two ranchers at most for cattle. Over the drought years, the northern spawners had one year that they didnt know where to go or what to do in the south basin (2013) but ever since then they learned from the southern spawners what to do & where to go. Nine of the sites are recommended for tents only due to the limited parking space, but the rest of the sites will accommodate both RVs and tents. 2019/2020 didnt change much regarding the chub population and summer catching. We live and breathe here, 24/7 365. LoL. DFW reduced our trout stocking so dramatically over 7 years that it doesnt appear that we have the numbers of trout we need to keep the tui chubs in check in summer (or other foods). For catching the trout, we simply had to adapt to the water conditions and loss of dissolved oxygen at levels the trout normally would be at. With the reduced planting there just havent been as many and a hell of a lot less anglers throughout the entire season. GMO E.L. Trout that is. Where it began is about the fish, its ending in grazing. I covered 7 miles of lake and never ran out of chubs. Ours stop surface flow for many months, although the ground water would still be of a concern since all our drinking water is from wells, including the water district in Spalding which is the most tested water supply at Eagle Lake. I believe we will continue to see this phenomena for years to come unless we can instill changes ASAP. Yes, folks, we are watching every move whether we say it or not. In the north basins its much shallower but more visual as a carpet of chubs in early summer and is a good way to observe how they school when they move from point A to point B. Lake Davis? Nasty job but if no one does it, it wont get done. This tent-only area offers a unique camping experience. In fall 2018, a big day was having 20-25 boats on the water so basically less than 100 people were catching fairly nice fish. Much deeper & its going to be chubs in summer. This is because they school so densely and when you run lines through the school you cant help but have all the lines go off. The newer PIT tags are small capsules inserted under the skin near the dorsal fin so most people who dont fillet their fish dont find them until after they cook the trout. The trout are sterilized at fertilization before being reared and planted in other lakes & reservoirs. If we do see anything, its generally later in August. Anything that gets above 44 (rarely) would have to stay until the following season.and they might bring the minnows with them rather than head to uncharted waters 20 miles upstream from 44. We have always aimed at getting the three elements rejoined, no matter what the personal cost is. With no grebe nesting for 5 years before 2017, we didnt have the birds to keep the chubs in check either, so we have 5 years worth of chubs with no checks. The critical part is getting the fish and minnows back to the lake before the creek dries up and water temperatures spike. LoL. We want the lake back to prime just as much if not more than anyone. We have gained a few back, but in the current funding requests 15 others may go too. Also, worked out of the Honey Lake Irrigation District.which is about more water for other uses. So, TU and American Rivers is looking for funding elsewhere. Once this community is joined together to help the whole lake, things will begin to look up. Of course the flows are dependent on what winter and spring brings.
