The views going down and coming up are spectacular! We often leave Suncadia with our hearts full, memories created and happy faces eager to do it all over again! It was a great way for my son to learn patience, good listening skills, and how to follow instructions. Travel to Whistler in the winter is, of course, fantastic with phenomenal skiing and snowboarding, fantastic kids programs (even for the tiniest skiers), snowshoeing, and much much more. While many head up to Tofino for the surfing, those of us with younger kids will MUCH prefer the calm and shallow waters of Parksville. With all the amenities, its definitely one of the coolest resorts in Washington state for families. And at high tide, kids can paddleboard in knee or waist-deep water. It could easily consume an entire day to see the many shops in Grayland! Leavenworth is only a couple of hours east of Seattle, but it FEELS like a different world. You can actually see Canada from the resort, which is pretty cool and makes it one of our favorite Seattle weekend getaways! Its EXTREMELY kid-friendly, and has all the great amenities of a big city without really feeling like a city. Getting out to the San Juan Islands requires a ferry ride which leaves from Anacortes, but for kids, the ferry ride is half the fun! You can get there in less than 4 hours from Seattle, and its a must-do if you want to experience everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Its the perfect summer or fall weekend getaway. . Kalaloch is also home to the tree cave which you just have to visit to understand how cool it is. If you have just one day to visit, youll likely want to head to Paradise, but Sunrise is also a great destination for families. It is a place where we can be together as a family while being active outdoors, unplug and relax. Portland is full of green spaces, and extremely walkable (but may be not AS much with little kids) so pick a place near one of the many walking trails. Youll also enjoy some of Anacortess great kid-friendly restaurants dont miss breakfast at Calico Cupboard! The ferry ride to from Anacortes to Friday Harbor (San Juan Island) takes about one hour. Others will enjoy paddling out to explore, fishing, or just relaxing with their toes in the water. We cant wait to head out there this summer to experience this ourselves. Downtown Leavenworth is fun during any season. If your kids are interested in sea life, definitely dont miss the Port Townsend Marine Science Center. For a wonderfully relaxing getaway (even with the kids) head over to Harrison Hot Springs Resort. San Juan Island is pretty small and you can easily drive anywhere in a short amount of time. The city has several kid-friendly museums to visit, such as the Mobius Science Center and its affiliate, the Mobius Childrens Museum. And Semiahmoo has an onsite movie theater! We love participating in it each year as a family because it truly feels like a community-wide event. What I like about Winthrop is that they do the western thing in a really cool way. Weve been back several times and its definitely one of the best family friendly hotels in Washington! If you are looking for a Wild West themed town, Winthrop is the best in the Northwest! There is a wonderful pool for kids and hot tub for mom and dad. 
Its located right at the edge of downtown Winthrop, so you can walk everywhere. One of the popular things to do is Magi Quest, as well as the outdoor ropes course and visiting the arcade. You cant talk about Pacific Northwest weekend getaways without including Portland. The scenery was breathtaking at ThunderFoot Riding, LLC in Twisp, WA. 
We have stayed in a variety of their accommodations and have found them all to be excellent. Suncadia remains our family go to staycation resort for the last 5 years and has become a tradition for us to visit at least once a season. Take a day trip out to Multnomah Falls- its so beautiful! 
If your family is active, you can try pickleball, basketball, tennis, go swimming in their indoor/outdoor pool, enjoy lawn games, or head out on the water. The Oregon Coast is a perfect weekend getaway destination just far enough to feel like youre getting away from it all, but close enough to Seattle that you dont need a whole day to get there. We will often bring our bikes and will ride for hours around their massive 6,000 acre community. Also, check out the Oregon Zoo, and the Portland Japanese Garden the nearby Washington Park Playground is pretty great too! The town has several great shops fit for anyone interested in exploring them, and several beautiful places to walk through on on both a snowy or sunny day. WiFi is free and all of the rooms have a small fridge. The kids love their outdoor fire pit where they can make smores. The Discovery Center is a family-friendly stop in Poulsbo, WA. While in Port Townsend, spend some time exploring Chetzemoka Park- the park is beautiful with so much for kids to explore! Portland has a reputation of being THE spot for hipster young adults, and maybe it is. Its free, and your kids will love becoming Junior Rangers. While there, we recommend staying at the Westin Bayshore for the great location close to restaurants, and Stanley Park, and the fantastic pool.
